W7 Metallic Jupiter — November 15, 2011

W7 Metallic Jupiter

When I purchased Metallic Venus I also bought Metallic Jupiter, which at the time looked like it might be a dupe for Models Own Purple Blue.

After wearing Metallic Jupiter I can tell you that they are very similar, but different enough that I’m happy to have both.

The base of Metallic Juoiter is darker an it only required two coats.

The finish of Metallic Jupiter is similar to Purple Blue in that it appears to be made up of tiny glittery/flakie particles. As you can see in this picture, the polish flashes either hot pink or a bright blue.

Here you can see the finish:

As I said the base of this is darker that Purple Blue, in some lights it even looks black.

Here’s a blurry picture to show the blue shimmer:

And here’s a close up that kinda shows both colours:

So sadly not a dupe for Purple Blue, but it might quell you’re need for it if you don’t want to fork out. You can buy W7 Planets collection for £1.99 in Savers or for £3 including shipping in the uk from Amazon.

Hope you liked this one, I’ve ordered Metallic Mars so I’ll probably swatch that in a few days.

Models Own Beetlejuice Collection: Pinky Brown — November 12, 2011

Models Own Beetlejuice Collection: Pinky Brown

WARNING! Serious picture spam in this post!

Today I put on Models Own Pinky Brown, for the Beetlejuice collection.

This is a really beautiful polish, in some lights it’s an olive gold, in others a burnished orange, then a dusty pink and a deep purple. In this photo you can see the olive gold  on the right of my middle finger, the orange near the cuticle and the purple/pink near the tip.

Here’s a shot with flash that I think really shows the purple flash and just how much this polish really sparkles.

Now, a few more pics!

Today I decided to add two close ups since this polish looks so different in different lights.  First a flash shot:

Next, in natural light!

I rally loved this polish, and I just hope that my pictures did it justice.

W7 Metallic Venus — November 4, 2011

W7 Metallic Venus

I was in Savers yesterday (a discount beauty and toiletries shop in the UK) and I was looking at the nail polish (obviously) when I noticed some that looked like they could be duochromes, sure enough they were. I bought two of them Metallic Venus and Metallic Jupiter, by W7. I think that metallic Jupiter may be a dupe for Models Own Purple Blue (swatches here) so I’ll do a comparison soon. Today I’m gonna show you Metallic Venus.

In the bottle, it flashes purple, blue, pink, and a coppery orange.

On the nails, it is just as beautiful! Here it is with no flash.

The most prominent colours on the nail are the blue, the purple and the pink, it really is lovely!

This is quite similar to Models Own Purple Blue, but the finish of it is quite different. Purple blue is kinda flaky/shimmerey, this is smother and has more of a sheen, does that make sense?

The blue flash in this is also slightly brighter and bluer.

This took three coats to be opaque but it’s really worth it, and I imagine it would look awesome over black which I shall do some time.

Really hope you enjoyed this post,

Jen xx

Models Own Beetlejuice Collection: Golden Green — November 3, 2011

Models Own Beetlejuice Collection: Golden Green

Today I decided to wear Models Own Beetlejuice Collection: Golden Green. I applied 3 coats which all dried quickly, and then topped it off with Models Own Top Coat.

Golden Green Beetle is a chartreuse green which flashes either a golden olive green or a bluey green.

In this photo you can see both colours.

The golden flash is really quite strong

The Bluey green is slightly less strong but is still relatively easily visible.

Here’s a weird angle to show it better

I really, really like this colour it’s very beautiful and I can’t stop twisting my nails and looking at it!

So far I am really impressed with this collection and I’m very happy that I got them! Are any of you getting any of these colours?

Hope you enjoyed this post, thanks for reading,

Models Own Beetlejuice Collection: Purple Blue — November 2, 2011

Models Own Beetlejuice Collection: Purple Blue

In the post earlier I showed you bottle pics of the Models Own Beetlejuice Collection. As soon as I opened the box I was excited but I couldn’t decide which one to wear, I eventually settled on Purple Blue Beetle.

As you can see it is super sparkley. It is a greyish purple base which has a pale minty blue flash to it.

It also flashes a bright fuchsia flash that you can see her in the bottle.

Now for some picture spam!!

All of the Beetlejuice Collection except for Pinky Brown can be bought from http://www.modelsownit.com/ for £5 each.

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it.

Models Own Beetlejuice Collection Preview. —

Models Own Beetlejuice Collection Preview.

Today I recieved the Models Own Beetlejuice Collection so here’s a preview of the colours.

It’s got to be said, I am so happy that I got these, they’re lovely.

First up is Pinky Brown Beetle. Looking at the bottle I can see red, pink, orange and an olive green.

Aqua Violet Beetle. The main colours in this are aqua and violet (weird right?)But there seems to be a little pink flash in there too.

Purple Blue Beetle. This is the one I’m currently wearing and it’s really nice. The overall base is a grey colour, but it flashes a rich purple, a fuchsia or a minty blue. It’s truly gorgeous!

Golden Green Beetle. This is a chartreuse green colour that flashes Emerald green and gold.

Emerald Black Beetle. It seems black but it flashes dark blue and green.

This is an awesome collection and all of the colours except Pinky Brown can be found at: http://www.modelsownit.com/

Thanks for reading, and I really hope you enjoyed this post.

Swatches of Purple Blue will be up later!

Sponged Gradient Nails — October 25, 2011

Sponged Gradient Nails

This is my first attempt at sponging a gradient, so please be kind! I was already wearing Rimmel Hard Edged when I decided to give it a go. I recently bought Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro from poundland, Midnight Blue, so I decided to use that for the sponging.

I cut a piece off of a make up sponge, then put a blob of Midnight Blue on a piece of paper and set about sponging.

After that I went back over each nail and sponged a bit more blue on each tip.

Her it is in the sparse but of sun I could find in my living room:

I was really pleased with how my sponging turned out, and I’m defnately gonna do it again some other time!

Do you guys like gradient manicures?

Rimmel Hard Edged — October 24, 2011

Rimmel Hard Edged

Today I have Rimmel Hard Edged to show you. I was in poundland the other day when I spotted some nail varnish that was new, so I popped over to take a look. I ended up choosing 2 colours, one was a  dark blackened blue which I’ll show later, but the other was Rimmel Hard Edged, as soon as I picked it up I knew I had to have it did I just see duochrome prettyness?! I took my purchases home and immediately whipped out Hard Edged to try it. Once it was on my nails I realised that I had been right:

Her in the bottle, you can see it’s a gorgeous shimmery red-purple colour, but in some places it’s a bronzey green.

Here it is on my nails.

This was so glowy on my nails, and I couldn’t stop looking at it!

At this angle, you can see and olive-greenish colour:

Nail Fail — October 19, 2011

Nail Fail

Now, this is more of a top coat  fail than me not liking how it turned out. I started out with two coats of Revlon Lunar, an opaque black creme:

Now, there’s a makeup shop where I live (aptly called, The Makeup Shop) which sells these cool looking polishes by a brand called True Lover.  The other week I found this one in there :

It is a lime green, with a peachy pink shimmer/pearl

It has no name, just a number, 50. I tried wearing this on it’s own, but it is ridiculously sheer and it made my nails look weird. However, I have wanted to try it over black, and see if the pink shimmer came out so I added a coat over the black.

On top of the black it really came to life. In some lights it has a greenish-gold sheen. Whilst in others, you can really see the pink:

Now, after all of this is when I got some problems. My topcoat had gotten old and a bit gloopy but I hadn’t gotten a new yet. I added the top coat and it looked lovely, and shiny, but then after about 10 minutes I glanced down and it honestly looked like my nails had gotten some kind of horrible rash they were full of lumpy bubbles. It looked horrible so I immediately removed it and did something else which I’ll post either later or tomorrow.

Blue and Purple Eyes — September 15, 2011

Blue and Purple Eyes

The other day I had stayed in all day in my pyjamas so I didn’t bother putting make up on. However at about 9pm I had this sudden urge to put some on so I did, and came up with this.

And here’s a close up of an eye for you:

For the eye look I mostly used shadows from the 120 pro palette that you can get off of ebay here.

I used the colours circled in Pink on the lid, and then the colours that are circles in Purple were blended into the crease.

For the purple under the eyes I used Fishnet and Ransom (circled in red) smudged on with a small brush. They are from the Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow box.

For a highlight I used an eyeshadow by Natural Collection called Snow storm

Snow storm is a very pale whitish blue with a subtle blue duochrome finish. I also put it in my inner corner.

I then added mascara and eyeliner to finish the eyes.

On my face I used Mac Prolong wear in nc15, set with Rimmel Stay Matte powder in translucent.

The blush I used is circled in Blue and it is from the coastal scents blush palette.

Finally for lips I used NYX Margarita:

And then topped it off with GOSH Light n shine in 05 Plum:

I chose this picture as you can slightly see the blue sparkle. However it is much more easily visible on the lips so I thought it would compliment the blue/purple on the eyes.

That’s all for now, hope you liked it’
